History of Earrings

 

 

Earrings are believed to have originated in western Asia in about 3000 BC the simple hoop and more elaborate pendant. Customary at the time everyday use of earrings has been well documented too thanks of everlastings images on coins, vase paintings and tera-cotta figures

 

 

In the early 20th century the advent of a screw fitting to clamp earring to ear (clip-on) led this type of no-piercing necessary earring very popular.

 

Art Deco came into vogue in the 1920?s earrings made in this style were characterized by straight, angular designed, long chandelier earrings were also favorites.

 

Earrings were completely revolutionized in the 1930s with the invention of the clip-on. The new clip fitting secured earrings more snuggly than screw-ons and consequently compact clip-ons became the earring of choice for the next several decades.

 

Earrings came a long way in the 1950s they were light and aerodynamic. Earrings would move.  In the 1960s the earrings was worn for fun or were signs of freedom to express one self all over. There were different textures with gold which involved melting it down under controlled temperatures. Also in the 1960?s another stage or evolution of earrings took place. There were earring worn exclusively during the day and other earrings just worn at night. The day time earrings were light and not as elegant or expensive as the night time wear earrings
